Lorena Garcia is a writer born and raised in Chicago. She is the author of Respect Yourself, Protect Yourself: Latina Girls and Sexual Identity. Her work has appeared in Gender & Society, The Hill, Education Week, and elsewhere. Her work focuses on the intersections of gender, sexuality, race/ethnicity, and social class. Lorena is a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), where she teaches in the Sociology Department and the Department of Latin American and Latino Studies.
