Fayetteville, AR
Sara Schellenberg is an interdisciplinary visual artist working in painting, fibers, and tattooing. She is a co-owner of Paper Doll Tattoo in Fayetteville, Arkansas, a cooperative women and queer-owned tattoo shop. Her work in painting explores the intersections between body, domesticity, and ritual, using motifs from quilting and other textile traditions to explore family histories and interpersonal relationships. She also integrates her experience in tattooing, a highly collaborative and community-based practice that puts these motifs in closer proximity to the body.
Recently she has participated in group shows at the Porter Art Warehouse, Fenix Gallery, and Midnight Gallery (AR), and presented a solo show at the International Quilt Museum (Lincoln, NE). She has completed residences and intensives through The Medium (Springdale, AR) and the Mt. Gretna School of Art (Mt. Gretna, PA). She is a recipient of a Practicing Artist Fellowship through the Mid-America Arts Alliance.
