Sarah Kersey is a recipient of the 2026 Anne Searle Bent Spiritual Art Fellowship.
She is a poet and x-ray technologist. Their work has appeared in The Rumpus, SWWIM, The Account Magazine, Hypertext Magazine, and elsewhere. Her debut chapbook Residence Time is published with Newfound. Regarding Sarah’s poetry, Taneum Bambrick wrote they “turn to this poet, always, for how they trace the tangles between past and present, for how they obsess over the question of what permanence means.” In 2025, Residence Time was named a finalist for the Eric Hoffer Book Award—Medal Provocateur.
Sarah is a New Jersey native and grew up as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Their manuscript-in-progress explores their exit from the religion. Sarah enjoys exploring the cross-pollination between her work as a healthcare worker and her heart’s work as a writer. Form and function are cornerstones of her practice as both a poet and x-ray technologist. The form and function of a particular body part dictates how she will x-ray it. The form and function of a poem dictates how she writes the poem, when she writes it, what will be included or disclosed, and what she keeps for herself. They combine spirituality, sexuality, and science/medicine to illustrate the dynamism of personal agency, and its liberating power.
When not writing, Sarah enjoys reading, Star Wars, visiting museums, and going to concerts. They greatly value rest.
