Herine Coetzee Koschak

Cellist Herine Coetzee Koschak is on a lifelong quest to engage in meaningful and personal exchanges through music. As founding cellist of the acclaimed Fifth House Ensemble, she has performed on local and national concert series at venues including the Grand Teton Music Festival, Crested Butte Music Festival, and Ravinia Festival, with recordings on Cedille, Naxos, Tzadik and Materia Collective labels.
Herine has appeared as featured soloist with the National Repertory Orchestra, Nittany Valley Symphony, and International Chamber Artists, and has performed with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and the renowned new music ensemble eighth blackbird. She is a regularly featured player with the Dickinson Ensemble and Joel Styzens' Relax Your Ears project and is Principal Cellist with Artemis Chamber Orchestra.
Her teaching experience spans the faculties of Madeline Island Music Camp, New Music on the Point, Fresh Inc Festival, Northwestern University's Community Music Academy, the Merit School of Music, Lake Forest College, and Carthage College.
A passionate advocate for equity in the arts, Herine co-creates musical projects with vulnerable populations including incarcerated youth and those impacted by Alzheimer's and dementia, and regularly presents at national conferences on these vital topics.
