Elliot Menard is the recipient of the William and Solange Brown Fellowship for New Musical Composition
Elliot Menard is performer-composer, opera-maker, and creative producer working at the nexus of opera-theater, new music, and experimental performance.
As a composer, Elliot explores how text allows music to emerge, the expressive range of the voice, and the interpretive multiplicity of translation. As a vocalist, she specializes in interdisciplinary, polystylistic, and experimental opera projects that challenge conventions in narrative and musical form.
She is currently developing Umbra (an opera-theater work on grief and transformation) and SULPICIA SONGS (a one woman opera on the poems of Sulpicia, the only ancient Roman poetess whose work survives).
In addition to her creative work as an opera-maker, she serves as Director of Operations and Producer at Overtone Industries, an opera-theater company in Los Angeles dedicated to mythic storytelling. This role is part of her larger artistic practice of community-building, collaboration, and creating infrastructure that supports emerging voices in experimental opera.
She holds an M.F.A. in Voice Arts from CalArts and a B.A. in Classics from Reed College.
