Benjamin Krause is a composer and pianist whose music is characterized by its rhythmic energy and richly colorful sense of harmony. He is the recipient of a Copland House Residency Award as well as honors from the Presser Foundation, RED NOTE Music Festival, ASCAP, and Hambidge Center for Creative Arts, among many others. His music has been featured on American Public Media’s “Performance Today” and performed by leading orchestras and ensembles, including the Houston Symphony, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Atlanta Chamber Players, and the Network for New Music. As a pianist, he is dedicated to amplifying new music and supporting emerging artists while pushing the boundaries of what is possible in contemporary composition. He has appeared in residencies at the Oregon Bach Festival Composers Symposium, Lutheran Summer Music, and Society of Composers, Inc. Conferences, often performing with his partner, Christina Giuca Krause, as the 4x5 piano duo. He earned his doctorate in musical composition from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, where he was awarded the Paul Cooper Award for orchestral composition, and now teaches theory and composition at Hope College.
