Sidney's Bedroom
Sidney's Bedroom was added to the home in 1907 and was presumed to have been built to accommodate Howard Shaw's mother after her husband's death in 1906. The room is named for Sylvia Shaw's second husband, Sidney, whom she married in 1961. It was most likely he who added the bookshelves on either side of the door to the sleeping porch. Above the fireplace are plaster decorations that have been cleaned and coated to preserve them. Wallpaper was replaced by a period-appropriate pattern. Plaster walls and ceiling were repaired. The floor was varnished to match the original or historic color. HVAC was updated.
SEPTEMBER 27, 2011
As seen in the first photo below taken in August, the closet in Sidney’s room suffered large plaster cracking when the house was raised. The next photo taken in late September shows the plaster has been removed. The room’s walls, too, are ready for new plaster skim coating. This room as well as Top of the Stairs will keep the original stain on the woodwork and trim; all other bedrooms will have woodwork and trim painted the same neutral color. Scroll down to earlier photos to see the woodwork.

Update on Sidney's Bedroom - March 30, 2011
The wallpaper is stripped and the room awaits repairs to the ceiling and walls as well as window restoration. The radiator unit will be removed as part of the HVAC modernization. Of special interest is a discovery under the wallpaper near the doorway. It is Howard Shaw's punch list of items he intended to complete.
