Creative Sabbatical
Wish you could get away for a Ragdale residency, but just can't leave your "real life" for that long? Consider Ragdale's Creative Sabbatical program.
What is a Creative Sabbatical?
This one or two-week residency is an alternative to Ragdale's traditional residency program and application process. We recognize that many creative people choose different career paths but could still benefit from time and space away from everyday life to focus on creative work. Ragdale has designed this program to expand and enhance the Ragdale community, and it is intended for individuals who fall outside our traditional residency guidelines.
Privileges and Fees
Sabbatical residents receive a room or studio, and they enjoy the same privileges as the other residents: uninterrupted time and space, dinners with the group, a fully stocked kitchen for other meals, and a community of peers. A Creative Sabbatical costs $950 for one week and $1750 for two weeks.
Application Process
To be considered for this program, write a 1-2 page letter of intent and address the following:
- Your reasons for wanting to come to Ragdale
- The specific project you plan to pursue
- When you hope to come and for how long
Please also submit a sample of the type of work you plan to pursue. Writers should submit a 3-5 page writing sample, and visual artists should send 5 slides or digital images.
A panel of Ragdale staff and past Creative Sabbatical residents will consider your proposal. Upon approval of your application, we will call you to schedule an interview and discuss possible dates.
