The Ragdale Kitchen

Of all the places at Ragdale, nothing inspires more devotion and love than the kitchen. Like kitchens everywhere, this is the heart of the home.

Not much of it is original to the house Shaw built in 1898, though. Rather, it has evolved through the decades to reflect the needs of the occupants and has come to represent the warmth of the Ragdale experience. Cheery yellow walls with white trim and blue accents, it is bright and welcoming. The consensus is to retain the original layout, colors, sink, and tiles. It will be modernized, but retain its charm.

September 27, 2011

The beloved Ragdale kitchen is being transformed after being stripped to the lath.  New blue board is up, ready for the plaster skim coat, and the windows are out for repair and refurbishment.  It is amazing to watch the progress from May to September in the photos below.  In the first is Peter West in front of the back windows.  The original walls were still up, but not for long.  The second photo shows the same view, but with the windows and framing gone and new blue board installed.  The third and fourth pictures show the east wall in similar condition as the back window wall.  In the fifth and sixth shots, one can see the north windows as well as the old drywall and new blue board.  Both of these last two photos show the decorative tile faced with a protective covering.  To remember what the tiles and the north wall looked like before Operation Renovation, scroll down to the bottom photos.

The large wooden cabinet that was on the south wall is being refinished on site as it is too large to remove.  As of September 28, the walls should be taped, mudded, sanded and primed.
