The Dining Room

The Arts and Crafts influence from Shaw's earlier European travels are clearly evident in this gorgeous room. Panels of leaded glass divide it from the entry hall and allow light to enter from both the east and west. The small fireplace is reminiscent of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Water damage to this room necessitates wallpaper removal and replacement with period-appropriate paper as well as plaster repair on the walls. Floors will be refinished. Trim will be stripped and refinished or repainted to match original.

Update for Dining Room - September 27, 2011

Ragdale’s formal dining room, as all other rooms of the house, has lost its windows for the time being.  All the Ragdale windows are at  Restoration Works, Inc., where they are being totally refurbished.  Every pane is removed while the frame is restored and repaired.  All ropes are new; all pulleys and weights are restored. Even the original hardware is being restored to stay true to the Shaw’s installations.  What window parts are not at Restoration Works are being restored or created on site.  That includes sills and interior and exterior frames.

The beadboard ceiling of the adjoining plant room will go back up, and the room itself features new tuck pointing in the stone wall.  Can you picture it again filled with the Ragdale geraniums next winter?
